If an employer has ever interviewed you for a job, you would agree that the most common question usually asked during an interview is, “What are your weaknesses”?
However, it is not in the employer’s or you’s interest to know how your weaknesses negatively affect the company. Still, they want you to acknowledge the areas you need to improve and your plans to overcome them.
Weakness is often associated with negativity. Everyone wants to show their strengths and what they’re good at. But no one wants to admit their shortcomings.
We often want to appear confident and strong, not allowing anybody to see us for who we indeed are from the inside because we don’t want their perception of us to change when they learn of our internal struggles. You may succeed in hiding your weakness from the person close to you but not from God. It works the other way around with Him.
The truth is, no man is perfect. Everyone has flaws. God wants us to acknowledge and embrace our weaknesses if we want his strength to be seen in us. Weakness is an opportunity for him to work powerfully in our lives. Weakness means we don’t have what it takes, and weakness means we are not in charge and don’t know everything. It is that part of our character that makes us easily succumb in the face of temptation.
Here are some examples of some bible heroes who had weaknesses
Noah’s weakness
After the flood, Noah had a vineyard where he produced grapes and alcoholic wine. He slipped into a drinking habit to the extent that one day he became drunk and laid naked. His two sons, Hem and Japhet, covered his nakedness after Ham told them (Genesis 9:20-24).
Moses’ weakness
Moses had anger issues. In Egypt, he killed an Egyptian who was maltreating an Israelite (Exodus 2:11-15). God told Moses because you did not trust in me enough to honor me as holy in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this community into the land I’ve given them. (Numbers 20:1-13).
David’s weakness
David, one evening went to the top of his palace where he saw a woman, Bathsheba (another man’s wife), bathing on the roof of her house. Even though David had many wives, he could not control himself. He requested that Bathsheba be brought to him and committed adultery with her.

“Therefore, I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong. And he said unto me, my grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me” – 2 Cor 12:9-10
- “My flesh and my heart faileth, but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion forever” – Psalm 73:26
- “He giveth power to the faint and to them that have no might he increaseth strength”. – Isaiah 40:29
